This painting was recently donated to Patriot Homes, an affordable housing complex for veterans in South Boston, Massachusetts. I am honored that they chose it.
The Marines visited Moakley Park in South Boston, MA recently. It was an honor to speak with these great men and woman and to see them interact with the neighborhood. The Marine on the right is showing his left-handed musical instrument with the little left-handed boy.
About Deb Putnam
As a plein air artist living in South Boston, I find a limitless source for my paintings. Sunny days and moonlit nights find me painting on neighborhood street corners and downtown Bostn. When painting outdoors is not possible, I work in my studio on larger scale paintings and works derived from old family photos, portraits or from small studies and photos of my on-site locations. What interests me most about plein air painting is how sunlight breaks up form when it falls on an object. When working in this manner time is of the essence. I must return to the outdoor location at the same time, each day for the short period of time when the sun and shadows are at the same angle and position. Hello Deb, I am of the same name; Deb. I am very impressed with your work_ down to the srtaght and narrow. You have acheived your sence of style, and haved maintained it. I would imagine, hard to do. An Artist - still asking me when I'll be the knowing thy self when i grow up. It is a coming. I am still sampling new ideas. I guess all in all one will lean towards their greatest strentghs, but will as every good artist, still do that- "Play Your Funky White Boy."
